In accordance with the tasks and obligations in implementing the research and development (R&D) of nuclear science and technology in Indonesia, National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (BATAN) has a mission that focused in the field of nuclear energy, isotopes and radiation applications. With the intention to achieve that mission, long- and mid-term on policy direction and strategy of BATAN as guidelines for achieving the goals and objectives have been predetermined.
One of the policy directions and strategies of BATAN is to carry out the R& D of advanced materials in supporting national industries capability for enlarging the national production by exploiting the local natural resources and utilizing the nuclear techniques. Nuclear technique applications, such as neutron beam application on materials research, especially advanced materials, e.g. magnetic materials may introduce and give new information on functionalities and properties improvement of materials. Overall, it could raise the value of the existing products or process.
The magnetic materials applications for energy including transportation,
health, environment and defense have been set up for the strategic R&D
plan of advanced material research at BATAN. This R&D program was
expected to give a significant impact in the regional level by increasing the
role of nuclear science and technology in supporting the national development
programs with the expected performance indicators as increasing the utilization
of nuclear science and technology on rare-earth metals of magnetic-smart
materials for defense technology
