Evvy Kartini is a chief scientist and an expert at the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), Indonesia. Her expertise in the field of neutron scattering and solid state ionics, were respected internationally.  She started her research on Superionic glasses in 1990, at Hahn Meitner Institute, Berlin, Germany and supervised by famous scientist Prof. Dr. Ferenc Mezei. In 1994-1995, she joint McMaster University as a visiting PhD Student supervised by  Prof. Dr. Malcolm F.Collins. She observed, the dynamic behavior in ZnCl2 and CKN at Chalk River Laboratory, Canada. In 1995-1996, she returned to Germany, and obtained PhD from the Technical University, Berlin, Germany. In 1996, she participated a prestigious “Higher European Research Course for Users Using Large System” at ILL,Grenoble, France. In 1998-2000, she continued Postdoctoral  at McMaster University Canada. In 2001, she was invited as a “Mombukagasho visiting scientist” at the KEK, Japan. She published many international reputable journals during those services.  In 2002 and 2003, she received the ‘RUT Award’ from the President of RI, Megawati Soekarnoputri, as best national principle investigator, and ‘Science Technology Award’, from Indonesian Toray Science Foundation, Japan, respectively. Recently, she was awarded as 10 Indonesian Innovator in Technologies, by TEMPO (2012) and received “Professional Alumni Award” from Bandung Institute of technology (ITB), in 2015.    Her specialization is on developing new material superionic glasses that have been observed by different neutron instruments at the international facilities, in KEK and J-PARC, Japan; HMI, Berlin; CRL, Canada; and ISIS, UK. She has been a President of the Indonesian Neutron Scattering Society (INSS) since 2015, and bring Indonesia to become official member of Asian Oceania Neutron Scattering Association (AONSA). (  She is also the expert on the energy materials, and lithium ion battery. Consecutively, since 2008 to 2015, she received various National, and International competitive Research Grants from the Ministry Research and Technology, Indonesia. Furthermore, the grants for developing an ‘Integrated Battery Laboratory’ was awarded in 2013. In 2016, her team won the National Consortium research grant of the renewable energy from the Ministry Research Technology and Higher Education, Indonesia, entitled “Development of Lithium Ion Battery as Energy Storage from Solar Cell for Street Lamp.” As chief scientist, she coordinates the consortium team from various research agencies, universities (ITB,UI, ITS, B4T, LIPI, UNS,BSN) and  the Industrial partners, ASTRA Co.,  and PT Jordan Abadi.  She became one of the International Board Member of the Asian Society of Solid State Ionics, and served as an Asia-Australia Councilor of International Society of Solid State Ionics since 2013. She is currently also act-President of Indonesian Materials Research (MRS-Ina).   In 2015, she became president of the Indonesian Researcher Union branch BATAN ( She delivers lecture for young researchers, and supervises bachelors, masters, PhD students from national and international universities such as, UKM, Malaysia and Leeds University, UK.. She is a Chief Editor of Atom Indonesia, a journal related to nuclear science and technology (; a Reviewer of the National Journal Accreditation,  Editorial Board of BATAN Press, and also  guest reviewer of various international journals, published by Elsevier or Springer.  She has been invited at various national and international conferences as Key note speakers. The latest was a Key Note speaker at the Asia Pacific Physics Conference (AAPC) and Australian Institute of Physics Conference in Brisbane, December 4-8, 2016.
